Vehicle and Burglary Crime Prevention

June 15, 2010 08:55

The best way to protect yours and your neighbours' vehicles from theft, damage and the subsequent inconvenience is to ensure that you don't leave any valuable items or loose change inside. A thief, if successful in stealing from one vehicle, will often move on to commit crime involving vehicles nearby.

During the warmer weather, be aware of the security risks when leaving windows open, particularly those on the ground floor. On sash windows, it is advisable to fit window stops on the frame, alloing a maximum opening of 130mm (5").

Where possible, take your bicycles inside your home as they are still a target even if secured outside the premises.

Avoid using your mobile or listening to music whilst walking.

Don't be distracted when using cash machines or sitting outside cafes; be aware of people you don't know approaching your table.
