An "Early warning of severe or extreme weather" has been issued by the Met Office as follows: Outbreaks of rain during Monday evening are likely to become heavier and more persistent especially in eastern parts of England and, later, Scotland. The rain is expected to move northwards overnight Monday night and into Tuesday. Some torrential downpours are likely, with totals of 30 to 50 mm in places, and a lower risk of up to 75 mm. A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office, affecting London until Wednesday 28th May. There is a moderate risk of a severe weather event affecting parts of Southern England today. Persistent and heavy rainfall, mainly during Sunday morning, has the potential to give widespread totals of 20mm within 6 hours and locally as much as 40mm.
