BT Exchange Problem

April 01, 2010 09:12

Following major flooding at a BT exchange in the Paddington area, tens of thousands of customers in parts of North and West London may be experiencing a loss of broadband and/or telephone service. Customers in other parts of the country may also be affected.

The flood water has been removed from the exchange building overnight and power supply has begun to be restored. We are now beginning to restore communications services to customers and this work will continue throughout the day. We will issue further updates as this work progresses. Customers can get recorded updates by calling 0800 1690199. The message will be updated as the situation changes.

Any customers needing to make calls to the emergency services who have a problem using their phones are advised to do so by using their mobile phone, or alternatively by using a friend or neighbour's working phone. A number of mobile services are also affected so customers may not be able to make or receive calls on their mobile or may experience an intermittent service.

On Wednesday 31st March 2010 it is anticipated there will be two motor cycle processions from Villiers Street, WC2 to Trafalgar Square. It is anticipated that one event will be at 0800 hrs and the second event will be at 1800 hrs.

The protest is by the ‘No to Bike Parking Tax Campaign’. This group are unhappy with Westminster City Council’s introduction of parking charges for motorcycles within the Borough of Westminster.

This group’s intention is to cause disruption to a major traffic junction or roundabout by driving in such a manner as to cause congestion. The Organiser suggests about 50 participants.

A protest is planned for Sunday 28th March from 1200 - 1400 hours outside Westminster Cathedral and surrounding area in Victoria. The protest is against the state visit of the Pope due in September this year.

Motorcycle 'ride slow' demonstration within GSZ area today 0800-1200 Hrs expect severe delays within the immediate Wewstminster area.

Due to earlier Road traffic collision in Vauxhall Cross there is severe congestion in the area. Please avoid the area if possible.

Anticipated demonstration involving motorcyclists in central London on the 09th March 2010 at 1730-2000Hrs in relation to cause, ‘No, to Westminster bike parking charges’.

Although Exact numbers not known at this stage, previously large numbers have attended to take part in the demonstration.

They plan to ride along Whitehall and into Whitehall Place and finally Northumberland Avenue, SW1 prior to dispersal.

There is therefore potential for large-scale congestion, within the Westminster, and surrounding areas.
