The Gipsy Hill SNT, PC Cronkshaw, stopped a male walking in the street with what he believed to be a Red Nosed pit-bull in the area of St Gothards Road. PC Cronkshaw provided information at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on 02.06.2010 and a warrant was issued under Section 5(2) Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. This was executed by the Gipsy Hill SNT on 09.06.2010 with the Metropolitan Police Service Status Dog Unit and Lambeth Police Task Force. The intention was to seize the dog and search for any documentation in relation to breeding and fighting. A male was arrested at the address in question for being in possession of a Dangerous Dog (confirmed Red Nosed pit-bull) which was seized by the status dog unit and taken to their kennels. The male has been charged with Possessing a Dangerous Dog contrary to Section 1(7) Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.He was bailed to attend Camberwell Green Magistrates Court. PS Mills of the Gipsy Hill SNT said “This sends out a message that illegal breeds of dogs will not be tolerated on Gipsy Hill Ward. We encourage anyone to come forward with information about a crime of this nature, or any other, which affects the community and dog walkers alike"

Streatham South ANPS Operation

June 17, 2010 13:22

On 2nd June between the hours of 11:30 - 2:30 pm hours an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation took place on Streatham High Rd opposite the Texaco petrol station. The joint initiative with the Council and Streatham South Safer Neighbourhoods Team targeted vans and lorries to ensure they had waste licences and any other motorists suspected of motoring offences. Approximately 50 Stops in total were made, one fine for £300 for carrying substantial waste with no licence. One pedestrian was fined £80 for littering. One stolen vehicle was recovered and a man was arrested on suspicion of driving without consent from the owner. And finally two vehicles were searched for drugs. PS Mark Brindley of Streatham South Safer Neighbourhoods Team said; "The local Community have long complained that ANPR Operations always run further up Streatham High Road, away from the ward. The public attending our meetings felt many dubious characters used the Ward as a ‘cut through’ to avoid Police Traffic Operations. The SNT and local response teams have listened to the public and we intend to do much more ad-hoc operations with ANPR and speed guns in the Streatham South Ward to catch criminals using the wards roads to travel on. These joint operations with the Council also deter potential fly tippers from the ward, which is required due to the spate of fly tipping in the ward. I intend to do many more joint operations with the Street Care team. It is important that drivers of Vans and Lorries that carry waste have the necessary waste licences on them if stopped by Police."

Streatham South SNT Operation

June 17, 2010 13:06

Streatham Safer Neighbourhood Teams worked with British Transport Police and Railway Revenue Inspectors at all three of Streatham's train stations on Thursday 27th May 2010 to quell Anti-Social Behaviour and incidents of Robbery in the neighbouring vicinities. 2 people were reported to court for fare evasion while a further 3 received cautions and 11 received fixed penalty fines. 18 people hanging around the Stations were Stop and Accounted (i.e. had to satisfy police as to their presence) and another 7 people were searched by officers - 2 of which received warnings for possessing cannabis. One individual received a fixed penalty notice for cycling on the pavement when he refused to accept an officer's advice to walk with his bike. The Public appeared very supportive of the initiative. PS Aiveen McMANUS stated, "The public appeared very supportive of police presence and were pleased that fare evaders were caught. They also mentioned they felt reassured that our presence appeared to cause groups of people with no purpose to be in the area to move on." PS Steve JONES commented, "Further joint operations are planned. We have had a number of robberies occurring around our train stations where victims have been targeted for visible valuables. With the modern trend of carrying IPODs and expensive mobile phones, the public need to be reminded that these items should only be used in a safe environment and not used when walking out of a train station! This is how criminals spot their potential victims. It is imperative to be aware of your surroundings."
